Back in the old days platform specific perks and tweaks were only occasionally available to third-party developers and remained exclusive to the embedded native applications. If you ask me, I am pleased with the growth path Apple has shown - user experience enhancements within the ecosystem and more openness to third-party developers. In this review, I have just highlighted only those things which caught my eye and seemed interesting. I haven’t told you anything about Xcode Cloud, which can solve the issue with the CI/CD and the ability to configure Automated Workflows, about the updates to the Swift language as part of multithreading improvements, as well as about the updates to macOS and Universal Control, and much more. Of course, the above is not about everything Apple treated us with at the conference. As a developer, I’m more than interested to test it and understand possible future constraints as well as to learn if iPad can become at least a partial replacement of Mac for active developers. It is a tool to build iPhone and iPad apps right on iPad. The new Shelf lets you access all open windows of any app and quickly switch between them □įinally, Swift Playgrounds is no longer a simple playground app. Now it is much easier to choose the application that you want to run in a Split View mode. It is very convenient and it is not entirely clear why this wasn’t done earlier. There is also the App Library and the ability to hide homescreens and switch between them. From now on you can bring widgets to the homescreen in the same way as in iOS, whereas the previous version let you see the widgets on the main screen only. IPadOS has received a number of updates that make it very similar to iOS. Notably, Face Time is now also web-based so you can communicate with your friends and colleagues who are using Android or through a browser. Intellectual background noise reduction will let you comfortably talk when there is too much noise around. Portrait Mode is now available for FaceTime video calls, blurring the background so users could put themselves in focus. SharePlay API will let any apps to be easily integrated with FaceTime and allow users to be closer to each other even being apart ❤️ Besides, this will help to increase the number of organic app installs as people will recommend their friends to make an install at the right time ☝️Īlso, Apple has much enhanced the FaceTime image processing and sound. They haven’t forgotten about developers either. Also, FaceTime now offers Spatial Audio which will make it feel like you’re sitting in the same room as the person you’re speaking to, and in group calls, friends will sound spread out in the room. With shared playback controls, anyone in a SharePlay session can play, pause, or jump ahead. With the help of SharePlay technology, users during a Facetime call will now be able to simultaneously watch videos or listen to music. Understanding that all kinds of restrictions may be there for some time, the guys from Apple have offered their own solution to this problem. But I’m sure many would agree if I say that it’s not that easy, if at all possible, to hold those ‘old time’ gatherings through video. Of course, the evolution of video conferencing tools has saved us from being totally apart from each other, giving a good chance to communicate with our friends and the loved-ones almost the way it used to be. The Corona crisis has greatly affected the people and forced us to shelter in place, losing physical touch with each other.
